October 18th, 2015...Celebrating David's birthday.

Yesterday we celebrated David's birthday.  It was a grand day of close friends gathering together to swap stories of life, to celebrate the love we have for each other, and especially to celebrate David's birthday.  There was plenty of excellent Korberl Riesling champagne to accent the event.  Then there was the food:  assorted snacks including candy corn and dry roasted peanuts combined (it's like eating a Payday candy bar), shrimp cocktail for the first course, the steak with mushrooms and onions, baked potatoes, and a simple tossed salad to round out the feast.  If this were not all enough, dessert...the birthday cake was from a local bakery (Mazzetti's) and it was chocolate with a rum raspberry filling and chocolate fudge frusting...decorated with David's name and red balloons.

As we relaxed over after dinner coffee (Gevalia traditional roast) our conversation turned from joyous to a more serious theme.  With my buying the house in the north woods of Wisconsin would this be our last birthday celebration?  We also agreed, that our "real" birthdays each and every year are when the minimum of us five "core friends" are together to celebrate.  There are no real and simple answers to the questions in all of our minds regarding the future.  I guess I might have to say is that we are now waiting to see where this all takes us over the next couple of years.  It was a great birthday celebration.  It was a poignant birthday celebration.

Suffice it to say, though, it was the best birthday celebration "ever" for David.  Happy Happy Birthday David!

After the last guest had left, I cleaned up the kitchen as I am wont to do...tablecloth and napkins into the dirty clothes, dishes and glasses washed and cleaned, cooking utensils washed and put away.  I do not stop and did not stop until I was done for I hate waking up "the morning after" and walking into a messy kitchen.

Once I was done, I sat down with one final glass of wine and listened to the stereo...soft jazz was playing and I listened to familiar old tunes and enjoyed new ones I'd not heard before.  The memories of ten years of celebrations (birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving,  celebrations of just being) gathered around me like old friends and I welcomed them into my evening with a smile and a comforted heart.

This apartment has been a good home over the last ten years and it has always had a good vibe.  The memories of each and every moment here...I cherish.

Now I have new house...a home...in the north woods of Wisconsin.  My first week there at the house as my family of friends and family-family gathered around me was a housewarming extraordinaire.  Already that house has a track record of warmth, love and laughter.

So what am I trying to say here in all of my rambling?  You know, I do not know...except to say that I am blessed.  I am blessed indeed.  Thank you God...thank you Universe...
