One of my all time favorite ghost stories/haunted house stories is Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. I read the book when I was 13 or 14 years old...and then this time of the year I return to it again for my annual dose of thrills and chills. Two movies have been made based upon this book. The black & white version from 1963 I believe to be the better version...and I do have that movie line up via Amazon to watch tonight.
So...Happy Halloween...and I leave with the words of the epilogue to The Haunting of Hill House:
"Hill House itself, not sane, stood against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, its walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill house, and whatever walked there walked alone."
Boo!
E'nuff...
