Happy Halloween!

It is the time of the year for ghosts, goblins and all things supernatural.  It is a time for pumpkin pie, candy and apple cider with cinnamon simmering away on the stove.  Then as the darkness of night returns earlier and earlier each day, it is a time to tell ghost stories.

One of my all time favorite ghost stories/haunted house stories is Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.  I read the book when I was 13 or 14 years old...and then this time of the year I return to it again for my annual dose of thrills and chills.  Two movies have been made based upon this book.  The black & white version from 1963 I believe to be the better version...and I do have that movie line up via Amazon to watch tonight.

So...Happy Halloween...and I leave with the words of the epilogue to The Haunting of Hill House:

"Hill House itself, not sane, stood against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood for eighty years and might stand for eighty more.  Within, its walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill house, and whatever walked there walked alone."

Boo!

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?   ~J. B. PriestleyRead

Yesterday we had the first snow of the season.  It caught all of us by surprise both in its earliness and in its intensity.  Yet it was magical.  I am blessed.

Today's Daily Word from Unity captures my feelings perfectly:  "I give thanks for each experience that has brought opportunities for personal growth and transformation. I am gratefully and wonderfully blessed."

E'Nuff!

“But when fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.”
― Stephen King, 'Salem's Lot
