However, I want to explore my father's side of the family. He came here from Denmark...so I guess that makes me 50% Danish and was one of 16 children. That means there are a whole hell of a lot of Danes to which I am related in Denmark.
My goal is to find them and to find out more about them.
Some additional information: my father changed his name from Lysdal to Lysdahl when being processed through Ellis Island. However, Lysdahl was not always the family name. The family name had been Kristiansen (son?) but was changed to Lysdal (Lysdahl) at the transition from the 19th century to the 20th century. My understanding is that, loosely interpreted, Lysdal or Lysdahl means "light in the valley" or "light in the dark."
My Dad's family was not the only family to change their name at the turn of centuries back then. I do know of a family...also now with the surname Lysdal (Lysdahl) whose original family name was Pedersen (son?) who changed their name at the same time. I find that even to be interesting and something I plan to explore further.
Wish me luck...
