Thirty-three years ago this weekend, I moved to San Francisco. Obviously I've changed. However, the city has really changed...and not for the better in my judgement. Years ago in the middle of a long holiday weekend the Castro would have been a non-stop party of sights and sounds. Now it is subdued. I walked into one bar (440 Club) and ordered a drink...and as I sat there looking around...I suddenly realized I was the youngest person there! My thought is that young people can no longer afford to live here. Then later I ran into a friend who has lived here 16 years and found out she was moving away...she had been Ellis Act'd out of her rent-controlled apartment and could no longer afford to live here. Any city where the only criteria of living there is having a great amount of money...that city is no longer a vibrant city but rather a dull enclave.
Family, friends and home are the treasures that bring me the most pleasure. Through my blog, I wish to share part of my life and heart with readers.
