As I take my morning coffee garden walk, the sky has grown light, scattered with puffy white clouds drifting lazily across. Few flowers still linger—an occasional black-eyed Susan stands stubborn against the season—but most of the color comes from fallen leaves or the garden plants themselves preparing for rest. My hydrangea, once creamy white, has transformed into blossoms tinted with purple and pink, a final flourish before the fade of frost. I pause to take in this richness, marveling at how even endings can be so beautiful.
Steam rises from my mug, curling in the cool morning air before the wind disappears it. I take a sip, and the warmth fills me with simple gladness. How splendid a day this is—how precious these quiet walks have become. They are my meditation, my way of breathing in gratitude and breathing out care.
It is so easy to let life’s busyness obscure the blessings that surround me. But appreciation is itself a practice, and each time I choose it, I find myself open again to wonder. Gratitude turns the ordinary into the extraordinary; it transforms passing moments into lasting gifts.
With my heart and mind open, I find myself a magnet for blessings both large and small. This is my affirmation as I begin this day: I live in ease and grace, aware and grateful for every moment gifted to me.
And with that, my coffee mug is empty, ready to be refilled. So I return inside, carrying the morning’s peace with me, eager to begin anew.
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.” ~Melody Beattie
