There is an old road that runs into the breakwater that protects the Sharp Park Golf Course. Off of this old road are several hiking trails that lead up and over Mori Point. On the other side of this road is a restored wetlands area. Lastly and most importantly, though, is that along this road are wild roses...lots of wild roses...that bloom and flourish during the spring and summer. Here are just a few of them.

Late afternoon sunlight filtering through the coastal mountain forests capture a moment of peace and quiet. The Crystal Creek and Sawyer Creek Reservoir areas are popular hiking/biking/walking destinations here in the Bay Area. The lake in this picture sits right on top of and runs along the San Andreas Fault.
It is, for me, a pleasure to get up before the early morning sun arrives. The pleasure comes from watching the early morning turn from dark to gray...and then ultimately to watch the gentle yet brights rays of early morning sunlight play across the bay, the mountains, the ocean, the woods. In this particular photo...it was the sunrise on an Easter morning. Interesting, eh? It was a moment of hope, a moment of life in a new day, it was a moment of pure peaceful bliss, and it was also a moment of renewal.
Growing up in north central Wisconsin one learns that red winged black birds are the quintessential sign that spring has arrived. They seem to be amongst the first birds...along with robins...whose song suddenly greets the people living there as they emerge from their homes into the first warm sunlight of spring.
This morning before I awoke I found myself once again walking along the north shore of Amacoy Lake on a chilly November day. The chill November wind rustled the reeds, the cold lake water restlessly lapped against the shore, and the trees had already lost their leaves and were nothing more than dark branches against the steel blue sky. Ahead of me the family dog happily trotted in our afternoon outing. Together we crossed the springy boards of the footbridge that spanned a rushing stream as it entered the lake. Then I woke and as I lay there in the silence and darkness of morning, I grieved for the young boy that once was, I grieved for my dog, and I grieved for my parents because in the surety of that dream they were all there.
This is one of the very first picture I took using my iPhone 6. This afternoon this photo was made my wallpaper on my car's display/computer system. Thank you Dave!
The great California drought has left us impoverished for water. This picture was taken about 10 years ago when it used to rain during the winter...and we had what was "winter" here in Northern California. It was taken on a warm spring morning when the willow were getting ready to leaf out...and flowers were blooming everywhere.
This year is different thought for it is year four of the drought. I've not been along the trail from which this photo had been taken...but as I gaze out my window at what once was a grassy and green courtyard...all I see is brown dirt. One has to wonder when this drought will end? This picture was taken with my film camera...the 450 SLR. It was taken quite a few years ago...and I think it was during Sandra and Rod's first visit to Northern California. Can you not feel the warmth of the late morning sun when looking at this picture?
Most people associate redwood forests with being north of the Golden Gate. However, they are also south of the Golden Gate as well. Just take highway 1 south and turn east on either Hwy 84...or go further south and turn east at Pescadero...and these roads will wander through these beautiful forests.
Does anyone knows that these flowers are? I came across them on one early morning walk on San Bruno Mountain. One of the little know facts about San Bruno Mountain is that at the top it has a little "rain forest." A walk through this little rain forest is a pleasure...and you will have to keep reminding yourself "I am in the Bay Area"!
