The story behind the recipe: Marie, Dave's sister-in-law, sent this recipe to me today and I thought I would pass it on to you because it looks delicious and easy...
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup minced walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup butter, divided
1/4 tsp. baking soda
14 oz can condensed milk
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups chocolate chips
Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, nuts, 6 Tbsp. butter (melted) and baking soda. Press firmly into a greased 13x9" pan. Bake at 350 degrees 10-15 min. till lightly browned. In medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 Tbsp. butter and condensed milk. Cook and stir until slightly thickened, about 5-10 min. Stir in vanilla. Pour over oat layer. Bake 10-15 min. until golden brown. Remove from pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let stand 1-2 minutes to melt, then spread while warm. Cool, then cut into bars. Makes about 36. Store at room temperature.
